The Hundred Update - Liam Livingstone and bowlers win for Birmingham Phoenix
The Hundered - Ongoing After beating the Trent Rockets 16 runs on Friday August 13, Birmingham Phoenix has risen to the top of the points table. Moeen Ali was unable to make it, so Liam Livingstone took charge at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The Rockets maintained their third place.
Benny Howell and Chris Benjamin got two to the boundary, just before Samuel Cook took their wickets. Hammond showed his class throughout. Hammond remained unbeaten throughout, scoring 38 from 20 with five fours et one six. Rashid Khan was wicketless for the Rockets.
Bowlers take the lead
D'Arcy Short was not a good start for the Rockets in their run-chase.Alex HalesIn quick succession, Dawid Malan and Samit Patel both perished. Imran Tahir rescued Samit Patel from the clutches and brought down the Rockets' run total to 57 runs for four. But, Steven Mullaney's 42-run stand and Lewis Gregory's ten-run stand kept them alive.
After Tahir had pinned Gregory to 25 for 25, the Phoenix was the favourite. Mullaney was able to score 49 from 33 with two fours as well as three sixes. However, his effort was in vain. With three wickets, Brown was the top pick among the Phoenix's bowlers. Tahir and Dillion Pennington each picked up two scalps.
I was disappointed with the timing of Liam Livingstone's dismissal
Livingstone was elated at the performance of the bowlers following the victory. Livingstone called Tahir a wicket-taking prospect. However, he wasn't content with his own dismissal.
"Brilliant win. Great team effort. Brown came in and bowled 10 at death. It was hard to take over Mo (Moeen) because he's so laid back and I get anxious at times. Livingstone stated that "We are playing good cricket, and are peaking at just the right time."
"We use him (on Tahir) to get wickets, the partnership was developing. We needed him, and the move paid off. We are now guaranteed a place in the playoffs. That's extremely important. As one of the senior players on the team, I am responsible for it. "I was disappointed with the timing of my dismissal. I had to stay there for a while longer," he said.
